    • Description:
    • Maine Coon - Sterling - Medium - Adult - Male - Cat

You can meet Sterling at the Humane Society office. We are located at the Weaks Center at 607 Poplar St. in Murray. Our hours are M-Th 10-3, however, we will be HAPPY to come in after hours if you would like to complete an application and set up an appointment to meet this kitty. <p>Sterling is a rescue from our local animal shelter. He and his brother and sister had been there over a month. Sterling was born around mid-July 2010. He is an unusual cat with black fur and an overlay of silver hairs mixed in and one his belly and by his tail.
Sterling is very affectionate and likes attention. He is also quite playful and loves toys. He is litter box trained. He is best described as "Affectionate, Independent and Playful".
Sterling is learning to use a cardboard scratcher for floor scratching and a sissal post for vertical scratching. He seems to enjoy these and will need scratching furniture and toys in his adoptive home.
Sterling likes to be with you and sprawl across the desk to watch you work or take a nap. He will get a bit underfoot because he wants to be with you so much and would not be good for someone with balance problems or who is elderly as he can get in the way. He is an easy-going cat confident and loving. He does, at times, want attention on his own terms and will give a quick swat if he isn't in the mood. He will need an owner who understands cat-behavior. He loves treats and will do anything for a kitty treat.
He loves napping and is an extremely sound sleeper! He gets along well with other cats with a slow introduction, but would love to be the king in his own castle. He is somewhat dog-like in his behavior and would actually do best with cat-friendly dogs. Sterling has been tested and was negative for feline leukemia and FIV. He has been vaccinated, treated for worms, neutered (1/6/2011) and given flea prevention. The Adoption Donation for our cats is $99.00. Medical Care for Our Cats and Kittens: Their medical care includes feline leukemia/FIV testing if over 5-6 mos of age and feline leukemia testing for those who are younger. The testing is conducted in a vet clinic and results are available for an adopter to verify. Once tested, the cats and kittens receive the following vaccinations: FVRCP and feline leukemia (usually 2 series 3-4 weeks apart), and a rabies vaccination if 16 weeks old. Our kitties are dewormed, treated for ear mites if they have them, and given Advantage flea prevention and microchipped, and treated for any other ailment that the veterinarian identifies. They are spayed or neutered if old enough and at a safe weight for the anesthesia.

      Cat Adoption Guidelines:
You must fill out an application to be considered for adoption. Please email us at [email removed] for an application or call the office at 270-759-1884. Hours are M-Th 10-3. The application can then be sent via email to the same address or sent to our office. You can also download the application from our site on the internet at www.forthepets.org. Please, serious inquiries only.
This is not a “first come” process, we try to match the cat or kitten with a home that will be a Forever Home.
We are a small group of volunteers that have full-time jobs outside of our work for the humane society and our time is valuable. The time to process an application can vary depending on the availability of the Cat Adoption Team, the information provided on the application (whether it is Completely filled out) and the number of applicants for that pet. We try to process them in as timely a fashion as possible.
We do consider out-of-state adoptions, however, we do not fly or ship our cats due to heat/cold concerns and safety issues. If you are willing to fly out AND fly the cat back in the cabin with you, that would be considered.
If you apply to adopt a cat and are selected, you must come to Murray, KY to pick up the cat and fill out the paperwork in person.
Most likely, if you are selected and come to Murray to meet the kitty, the adoption will be approved. However, this is not 100%, as we cannot be certain
